2012 is set to be a tough year for expiring pharmaceutical related patents. $29 billion dollars worth of annual revenue of patent holders is likely to be at risk from companies making generic drugs.
If you think patents are cheap, think again! Apple-Microsoft-RIM paid a huge sum of $4.5 billion dollars for 6,000+ Nortel patents until Google forked out $12.5 billion dollars for Motoral Mobility Inc. which included 17,000+ Motorola patents.
The Federal Circuit overturned one of the largest patent verdicts in U.S. history in 2011 for invalidity in a case involving Centocor Ortho Biotech vs. Abbott Laboratories.
